PSU volunteers at the West London Family Court are trained to give assistance to people who, for various reasons, don’t have lawyers but need practical and emotional support.

You will need to be someone who can support a wide variety of people, has initiative, a common sense approach to help assist them solve their problem and the ability to comfort people going through a difficult time. You would be required to help with a variety of tasks such as: filling out forms, accompanying clients to their hearings and being a listening ear.

Initial training consists of 1 induction day and a minimum of 4 days shadowing experienced volunteers at the West London Family Court. Is it requested that you start shadowing within two weeks of the induction and complete your shadowing within a 2 month period. Ad hoc training opportunities are then offered during the course of the year. Volunteers find their experience at the PSU extremely rewarding, given their unique ability to make a difference to the experiences of litigants-in-person.

Time Commitment: At least 2 days (9.15am – 4.30pm) per month for a minimum of one year. Currently, the PSU office at the West London Family Court is only open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
